Music Ministry

Music is a vibrant and essential part of worship at UUCM! Services are led from the piano by Music Director Paul Winchester alongside special music of all genres and styles offered by dozens of wonderful congregational musicians and ensembles.

The UUCM Music Ministry offers a wide variety of opportunities for involvement for volunteer musicians of all interests and ability levels. Our roster of congregational musicians includes everything from beginner musicians to occasional hobbyists to working professionals and there’s always room for more!

Two ensembles perform regularly in worship: The UUCM Band and UUCM Choir. Each ensemble performs about once per month. The Choir is non-auditioned and all ability and experience levels are welcome. The Band plays a mixture of rock, pop, and jazz and features and welcomes members of almost any instrument and vocals. The Band is not an auditioned ensemble, but unlike the choir, it does not rehearse regularly so members do need to have the ability to successfully prepare songs on their own. For most members, this means they are able to read music, but some can also learn by ear or by chord charts as well. If you’re interested in joining either ensemble and have any questions about what is involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Paul with any questions!

Additionally, musicians are always invited and encouraged to sign up to become Service Musicians to provide special music for one or two services a year. Unique musical offerings are always welcome, so even if you think the kind of music you do might not usually fit in, please reach out because you never know when something might be a perfect fit! We also always have need for pianists and vocalists to help cover any gaps as accompanists and cantors.
